T.H.E. World University Rankings 2020: Top Universities in North America, Europe and Asia

Oxford University (United Kingdom) is ranked top in the World University Rankings 2020 by Times Higher Education, followed by Caltech (United States) and Cambridge University (United Kingdom), while China's Tsing Hua University takes the top place for universities in Asia.

Times Higher Education (T.H.E.) recently released their findings on the World University Rankings 2020, an 15-year-old annual ranking of universities worldwide started by T.H.E. in 2004. World University Rankings 2020 assessed 1,400 universities from 92 countries on 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

The top three universities in Europe are all from the United Kingdom - namely, Oxford (global rank 1), Cambridge (global rank 3) and Imperial College London (global rank 10). For North America, Caltech (global rank 2), Stanford (global rank 4) and MIT (global rank 5) occupy the top three positions.

China's Tsinghua University (global rank 23) and Peking University (global rank 24) have attained the first and second place in Asia for the first time, while Singapore's National University of Singapore (global rank 25) has dropped to third place.
60 of the top 200 universities are from the United States, with 10 located in the state of California alone. There are 28 U.K. universities in the top 200 (down from 34 four years ago), while Germany has 23 universities in the top 200.
